Abdul Quadir

An accountant by profession, with a degree in Commerce, Abdul has been a Camden resident for over 40 years, starting out here in Bloomsbury.

Elected the Deputy Mayor of Camden 2005-2006, Abdul has also served in a number of key Council posts dealing with Licensing, Pensions, Housing and Young People.

But Abdul is even better known for his community work, and in particular as the founder Chair of the Bengali Education Centre, established in 1985, which worked with local schools to raise educational achievement for children. That project has been hugely successful, with many life chances for Bangladeshi children radically transformed, and it has become a model for raising achievement in many other parts of the Camden community.

Family life is very important for Abdul, with three grown up children who came up through Camden schools. He also finds time for hobbies such as sports, political debates and community works.
