Charlie Hedges

Charlie has lived in Camden all his life and the last 30 years in west Hampstead. He is married with four grown up daughters and seven grandchildren. He served sixteen years on Camden council on most of the main committees until he was taken ill.

Charlie still has a lot to give to the people of Camden and the community. He is currently chair of the Hampstead housing which monitors the housing stock and lack of service to tenants He is also chair of the Swiss cottage community centre which is one of the most successful centres in Camden with over one hundred thousand people attending a wide range of classes. He helps run the Swiss cottage festival which goes from strength to strength every year.

Charlie believes it is a great shame that west Hampstead community centre was allowed to shut as a community centre can give so much back to the local community.

Having lived in a council house for thirty five years and having always been involved in his estate and the surrounding areas he wants to make it a better place to live for everyone.

Enyd Norman

Enyd Norman has lived in West Hampstead for 30 years and for the last 20 years in Fortune Green.  Enyd worked as social worker and has long experience of working with families and young people in trouble. She was previously a co-opted member of Camden Social Services Committee. She trained as a counsellor, worked on a children’s helpline and became a volunteer counsellor for a community agency in Islington and with Camden Age Concern.

Enyd has a longstanding commitment to community based services.  She passionately believes in the importance of services provided by the council and voluntary organization in maintaining the quality of everyday life of all residents as well as supporting vulnerable people in the community.  Enyd is interested in issues promoting the wellbeing of older people particularly those services that support healthy and active life style in older age.

Phil Turner

Phil Turner has lived in Fortune Green Ward since 1973. All four of his children went to local state schools. He is a past Vice Chair of Governors of Hampstead School in Westbere Road and is currently concerned with the behaviour of some young people in the area after school. He is a long-standing member of West Hampstead Amenity and Transport.

Phil currently chairs the Winchester Project, which provides play, sport and other structured activities for young people, and is a Board member of Kingsgate Community Association. He thinks that the Council’s long delay in reopening the Community Centre on Mill Lane is scandalous.

Phil has plenty of experience of local government – he has 35 years’ service as a Councillor and is a past Leader of the Council; he was Executive Member for Leisure when, under Labour, Camden became one of the ten best Councils in the country. So he both knows how to deal with residents’ problems and how to get action to resolve them, and also has long experience in handling strategic issues so as to create a better Camden for all.
