Meet your 2010 Hampstead Town Ward Candidates...

Janet Guthrie

Janet Guthrie has lived in Hampstead for over twenty years and has recently moved to Belsize Park.

She served on the Council for eight years and was Chair of the Scrutiny Committee ; this means she has a good grasp of the range of issues facing Camden Council. Janet was a lecturer in Higher Education and trained Social Workers. She is strongly committed to serving the local community; she is a governor of a local primary school, and is an active trustee with Age Concern Camden, Mind in Camden and Queens Crescent Community Centre.

“I am dismayed by what is happening to Camden under the current coalition administration. The sale of council housing, the cuts in youth services, the rise in charges for meals at luncheon clubs and other services for the most vulnerable demonstrates their lack of care for those in greatest need. I would strive to make Camden fairer and more inclusive”.

Tom Tabori

Tom’s family have lived in Hampstead all his life. His father lives on Gayton Road, in a house he built Tom’s grandma in 1974.

He used to coach kids cross country for London Heathside Athletics Club at Parliament Hill, and he knows Hampstead well, its shop owners and stalls, pubs and schools.

A professionally produced playwright, Tom is now studying to be a barrister, funded by Gray’s Inn. His strong belief in access to justice for all motivates his voluntary legal work for the National Centre for Domestic Violence and the Bar Pro Bono Unit.

When at the thinktank Demos, Tom worked on the Trust in Local Government project, and strongly believes in it as the site where trust in politics more generally can be rejuvenated.

Tom fights this campaign to give the families and businesses of Hampstead a proper voice in Camden Council.
